Early and late-onset phenotypes are distinguished - infantile, juvenile and adult. The prognosis for individuals with Pompe disease varies according to the onset and severity of symptoms. Without treatment the disease is particularly lethal in infants and young children.Some GSD types cannot be treated, while others are relatively easy to control through symptom management.
